Children can sometimes find it hard to deal with the diabetic diet. If your child is having a hard time eating regular meals, ensure that the child takes enough liquid to prevent dehydration. Generally, a diabetic child should take half a cup of liquid every hour. However it is important to train your child to have regular meals. A diabetic child needs fifteen grams of carbohydrates every hour. Encourage your child to drink a lot of water and drink fruit juices instead of soft drinks. Tea, sports drinks and broth are also ideal options for liquids. Your child can snack with graham crackers, jell-o, popsicles, saltines, applesauce, broth soups, bananas, and toast.
