If you often experience sleeping problems, instead of popping sleeping pills, you can use essential oils, which are a much healthier option. These oils can help you to unwind and relax before you go sleep and even sleep deeper. The quality of your sleep can be influenced by many things including what you drink and eat, what you do before going to bed, the things beside your bed and your level of stress. Some of the essential oils you can use for sleeping problems include lavender, vetiver, roman chamomile, ylang ylang, bergamot, sandalwood, marjoram and cedar wood.
How to use
In a diffuser: this is the easiest way to enjoy the benefits of the essential oil. The diffuser spreads the molecules of the essential oil into the air and throughout the entire room. You’ll breathe in the oils sometimes without even smelling them and from there, they get to your hmbic system of the brain where they relax and calm down the body and mind making it easier for you to sleep well. Start diffusing the essential oil about 30-60 minutes before you get to bed.
Direct inhalation: if you don’t have a diffuser, there’s no need to worry. You can also get a good night sleep by just placing one or two drops of the essential oil on the palm of your hand. Rub your hands together then cup them over your nose and mouth, and inhale deeply. Repeat this for several minutes. This is a simple yet effective way to deal with sleep issues. You might also like to rub your hands over your pillow case so you can smell the oil throughout night.
Massage: you can massage 1 to 2 drops of the essential oil of choice at the bottom of your feet, neck, shoulders, and stomach. Add some carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil to help it spread out evenly.
Bath: mix about 3 to 6 drops of essential oil with baking soda or Epsom salt and add the mixture to your hot bath water. Soak in the water for about 20 to 30 minutes.
Warm compress: place a warm compress with about 1-2 drops of the essential oil of choice on your back.
